The look of photography in Easton, Pa. : 1847-1870 Cover Image Book Book

The look of photography in Easton, Pa. : 1847-1870 / Information compiled by Christos J. Karfakis.

Summary:

"The 'booklet' I have assembled traces the early period when photography was new. It is the time before having boxes of snapshots jammed into drawers under T shirts or stockings. Photography took the world by storm and the industrious person became an aid to another photographer and then he or she struck out on their own. I have been able to discover two of the first itinerant photographers in the country. In their wanderings they traveled to Easton, PA shortly after photography was announced in April 1839 in France, 3 to 6 months later it was brought to the United States. Galleries were set up in New York City, Baltimore and Philadelphia. The learned apprentices of trained photographers struck out on their own. Ergo, a "Panic" started in the midst of a real national panic in the US"-- Introduction on page 1.
